On the island of Sakhalin in Russia's Far East, on Tuesday morning, October 28, at around 07:40 local time there was a power outage across the southern part of Sakhalin after an explosion at a local combined heat and power plant. Governor of the Sakhalin region Valery Limarenko in his Telegram channel reported the emergency power outage.

As reported by the Russian media, dozens of settlements, including the administrative center of the region - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk - were left without electricity. Water supply was also cut off in a number of districts. According to the data, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Dalny, Novo-Alexandrovsk and Novotroitskoye were left without light and water.

Local residents complain that their apartments are cold, as pumps and heating systems are not working. The situation is complicated by weather conditions - cold weather is recorded on the island. At first, the reasons for the accident were not specified, as the equipment was checked.
